Coming after several recent meetings on ancient siderurgy and ironwork, this conference marks a distinctive stage of the european resaerch in this field. It first allows to compare methods and results from different european countries, concerning the location and study of slag masses, the refining of lumps, the workshops... But the Acts volume also devotes a large part to ancient tools, which gives the possibility to appreciate the result of ironwork in Antiquity : an activity which is, hopefully, now better known.

D. Cardon, M. Feugère (dir.), Archéologie des textiles, des origines au Ve siècle de notre ère. Actes du colloque de Lattes, oct. 1999.

The international colloquium which took place in Lattes in october 1999 aimed to associate specialists dealing with different sources of evidence : some tools and rare working installations, in western Europe ; textiles of any period, sometimes in perfect state of conservation, in eastern Mediterranean and Egypt.
Through the varying approaches, this book offers an image of a craft activity which could be though out of reach. Research and finds bring reality to a long illknown process, which certainly took a major place in the life of men - and more, women - of Neolithic and Iron Ages, in Greece and at Rome.
